Captain Ray Quel

Captain Ray was born on the island of Kauai in 1958 and raised on the North Shore of Oahu. His love for the sea, fishing, net-throwing, skindiving, and surfing was a result of growing up with the ocean as his play ground. Ray graduated from Lielehua High School and went on to Honolulu Community College where he landed an A.S. degree.

Captain Ray has been commercial fishing out of Haleiwa Harbor for over 20 years. He is experienced in all types of fishing techniques including, Night Fishing for Akule, Dragging Shell for Tako (octopus),Bottom Fishing for Opopaka (snapper) and Deep Sea Big Game Fishing for Marlin, Ahi (yellow fin tuna),Mahi-Mahi, Ono (Wahoo) and Aku (skipjack tuna).

Captain Ray has many great stories. One of his favorites is when he was fishing alone over 15 miles off shore when he landed an Ahi that weighed over 110 lbs. It was a great fight especially since it was all done single handedly.

Captain Ray, a Hawaiian Local Boy with a great knowledge of the coast line, will put you in the best of the fishing grounds. Plus he’ll tell you about the history of the area you are in. As your captain, Ray will do his best to you keep safe and comfortable while you’re hooked up to that big one and help you to land your catch.

James Fitzgerald a.k.a Fitz

James wears many hats: Operations Manager, Deck hand and Support. Born in 1957, this Native of Florida grew up working around the boat yards and charter fishing. He came to the Islands in 1978 after college.
He started commercial fishing out of Haleiwa in 1980. His Knowledge of fishing these waters is unsurpassed. His ability to keep the boats in tip top mechanical and fiscal shape is almost magical!
