Captain Ray Quel
Captain Ray was born on the
island of Kauai in 1958 and raised on the North Shore
of Oahu. His love for the sea, fishing, net-throwing,
skindiving, and surfing was a result of growing up with
the ocean as his play ground. Ray graduated from Lielehua
High School and went on to Honolulu Community College
where he landed an A.S. degree.
Captain Ray has been commercial
fishing out of Haleiwa Harbor for over 20 years. He
is experienced in all types of fishing techniques including,
Night Fishing for Akule, Dragging Shell for Tako (octopus),Bottom
Fishing for Opopaka (snapper) and Deep Sea Big Game
Fishing for Marlin, Ahi (yellow fin tuna),Mahi-Mahi,
Ono (Wahoo) and Aku (skipjack tuna).
Captain Ray has many great stories.
One of his favorites is when he was fishing alone over
15 miles off shore when he landed an Ahi that weighed
over 110 lbs. It was a great fight especially since
it was all done single handedly.
Captain Ray, a Hawaiian Local
Boy with a great knowledge of the coast line, will put
you in the best of the fishing grounds. Plus he’ll
tell you about the history of the area you are in. As
your captain, Ray will do his best to you keep safe
and comfortable while you’re hooked up to that
big one and help you to land your catch.
James Fitzgerald a.k.a Fitz
James wears many hats: Operations
Manager, Deck hand and Support. Born in 1957, this Native
of Florida grew up working around the boat yards and
charter fishing. He came to the Islands in 1978 after
college.
He started commercial fishing out of Haleiwa in 1980.
His Knowledge of fishing these waters is unsurpassed.
His ability to keep the boats in tip top mechanical
and fiscal shape is almost magical!
